Placement

Meanwood Primary

Placement Description:

For my placement I am working at Meanwood Church of England Primary School right next to Meanwood Park. The students I am currently working with are Year 6 students in Miss Marsden’s class, this includes an outdoor football session and a classroom lesson on PSHE.

Before I started coaching there, I was given an email of certain aspects within football the head of PE would like us to deliver and include in the session and base it around. This was a bit of a restriction as it seemed initially that we had to fit every aspect within one session, however the aspects were broken down each session individually and became learning outcomes for each session.

Guidelines Given.

In terms of sport and PE at Meanwood, the school games received a Platinum Level Award, which is achieved by getting the Gold Mark in sport 4 consecutive years running. School Games Mark is a government led awards scheme which rewards schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. The Platinum award was introduced to celebrate schools who had shown consistently high-levels of enthusiasm and commitment to school sport, which the school have been recognised for.

The School allocates Sports Captains for Year 6 who lead in the Sports Leaders in developing competitions. The school covers over the Risk Assessments of each sport they do at the school and aren’t afraid to try new sports such as: Mountain Biking and Orienteering widening the options given to the pupils.

Like all schools they have their governors and safeguarding board to have procedures that cover the sport and PE side.

Similar to the football guidelines provided, when the sport changed to netball we were given similar pointers that the school had on what they want to see in the sessions and what the pupils can do already.
